Jay Schellen (Hurricane,Stone Fury, World Trade)
I've known Randy since I was eleven years old, growing up in Albuquerque, we took drum lesssons from the same teacher. Although we were more than a few years age difference he treated me like a little brother, always having time to spend educating (corrupting) me in the best rock and roll tradition. We toured the same AME circuit, out of Denver, he was in the Offenders at the time, I was in my Alb.group called Ritual. We had a lot of fun in those years. Randy was an innovater on the drums. His showmanship was inspiring, his timing and beats were grounded, powerful and full of his cultural spirit. We talked about this New Mexico spirit many times, we both consider it unique and a rare influence in todays music. Once I moved out here to L.A., he always had my back, telling soundmen to "turn me up" at Madam Wongs West or the Country Club. He always recommended me to players around town. I loved him like a Brother. I feel like I've lost a piece of my self. I always thought he'd be there, slammin drums forever. The services at Forest Lawn were beautiful. Phil Soussan gave a heros tribute. I will miss you greatly Randy, I love you, God Bless you,
Jay Schellen

All of us at Zildjian were saddened by Randy's passing last week. He was a good friend and brother to us, and we will miss him sorely. We saw him at this year's NAMM show and he was in great spirits. I first met Randy in the summer of 1989 (I had just joined Zildjian) and he was touring with Ozzy. What an amazing player! We immediately hit it off and remained good friends throughout the years. We just recently discovered we share the same birthday. He was one of THE GREAT rock drummers, as well as a great soul. God Bless you Randy - Love your friends at Zildjian.

Joe Elliot
I met Randy a bunch of times, even jammed with him last year when he was playing with a Latino band in a tiny little house in LA. He was such a nice guy and he will be missed.....

Juan Croucier (Ratt)
Randy, was a great person as well as a great musician. Warm hearted, kind, respectful, a loving soulful person. He was always in a good mood. He never had anything bad to say about anyone. I toured with him a couple times. One time, when he was opening for us (Ratt) in Lita Ford's band and another time when we were opening for him, when he was in Ozzy's band. He was a true professional. He was one of those individuals that loved music deeply. He sacrificed a lot to be a musician. I have nothing but deep respect, love and admiration for him. There are only a few musicians I feel this way about. I will miss him dearly. I'm glad that I have so many good memories of him. I will keep them in my heart. Randy, it was great to be a part of your life and I'm glad you touched my life. Thank you and God bless you my friend, Juan

Kip Winger
I only met Randy a 2 times but I was a huge fan. In Denver Co. Around 1975-78, I use to go watch Randy play in a band called the Wumblies. He was truly ahead of his time. His instinct for rythm, level of skill, and showmanship were absolutly influential to most rock drummer of today, whether they know it or not. God Bless you man! Kip Winger

Chuck Wright
I've known Randy for more than 15 years and I've always found him to be a sincere gentleman at all times. A spiritual being with an amazing talent. He will be missed by many. "On and on the rain will say how fragile we are" With sympathy, Chuck Wright (Montrose, House Of Lords, Quiet Riot)

The passing of Randy Castillo truly reminds me just how precious life is. Randy was a good friend and offered his incredible talents to the song "I'd Die For You." He will be greatly missed. My heartfelt sympathies and condolences to all of his family and friends.

Randy was a good friend, a very cool person, and a very influential drummer for many years who did more in his lifetime than most. It saddens me that such a nice guy, who we all thought beat cancer, was taken from us, while people that should never have been born in the first place still walk among us! Thoughts and prayers go out to all his friends and family.

Scotti Hill, Rachel Bolan, Dave Sabo, Jonny Solinger, Phil Varone - Skid Row
Rock and Roll lost a great drummer and an all around cool person. We in SKID ROW are extremely saddened by the loss of our friend Randy Castillo. He was as solid of a person as he was a drummer. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fans. We'll miss ya bud.

Frankie Banali
Just a note to say how sorry I am to hear of Randy's passing. He was one of the few truly nice persons in the music business, and a wonderful drummer.
I met Randy in 1980 while we were both playing in various bands in Hollywood, especially at the Starwood. In all of the twenty-two years that passed, not once did I ever hear him say anything bad about anyone, and he never lost his enthusiasm when talking drums.

Each time we would run into each other, the conversation quickly turned to drums. What snare drums we liked, what microphones sounded best, and of course, how to get that Bonham kick drum sound. I'd like to think that Randy is up in Heaven trading 8's with John Bonham, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, and Tony Williams. I'm sure he's holding his own and showing them a trick or two.

May God Bless him and keep him in his light, and may his family find comfort in knowing that there is a new angel in heaven and his name is Randy Castillo.

Sincerely,
Frankie Banali

I am absolutly devistated....... Randy was not only very well respected and loved by me and so many others for the talent that God blessed him with, but even more because Randy's always had a heart of gold.....he was a true friend, he was someone that was never to busy to stop and embrace life with ya, he would always take the time out even if it was just to say hi, or to crack a joke with ya, just to see ya smile. Eventhough Randy is gone, he will never be forgotten.....God Bless you Randy. My heart goes out to the Castillo family.
I love ya bro.

I read the news today of Randy Castillo. We didn't know each other very well, but I would run into him from time to time. Whether it be in Mexico in a club or at a photo shoot in LA. Every time I ran into him, he was warm and friendly. We spoke at a photo shoot before the Maximum Rock tour in the spring of 2000. We were looking forward to hanging out over the summer. Unfortunately, this never happened because of his health. There is a kinship amongst all drummers. It makes me sad that we won't be hearing him play anymore. May he rest in peace.

Paul Gilbert (Racer X , Mr. Big)
Rest in Peace, Randy.

There is a huge hole in my heart.
You used to joke around with me all the time, saying that we had 'dented halo's'. I'll miss you my friend, and I love you.

Chuck Billy (reprinted from blabbermouth.net)
Today when I heard of Randy's passing, I was very saddened. Randy and I became friends on [TESTAMENT's] Low tour eight years ago. He was a great guy all the way around.
When Randy heard of my diagnosis with cancer, he was one of the first e-mails I received. He had just finished his chemotherapy and was offering his friendship, love, and support in any way I needed it.

Along with the rest of the world, I will miss [Randy] very much. I will miss his cheerful personality. He always made me feel good when we were together. Always reminding me of our Indian brotherhood.

My family extends their love to his.

RIP. Chuck Billy
